I have always been interested with the structure of bugs so i felt like I connected with his work pertaining to insects. The insect piece which I enjoyed the most was the graphite drawing of an Odontalabis beetle. Just the shape of the beetle was very interesting. Also, the extreme contrast in values from the highlights to the shadows which he achieved really caught my eye.
I was also very interested with his collagraphs. His Interior X piece was visually stimulating (phrase stolen from Professor Jenny Mac). I was actually able to attend his workshop this past Monday where he printed this same piece. Seeing the process unfold was amazing. It was great to be able to see all the steps that Evan went through in order to print a collagraph.
Though I enjoyed all of the pieces in the show, the piece that I felt that I connected with the most was entiled: Landscape with Sloped Horizon. It was not just the countless amount of lines which formed the structures in the piece, but it was the use of the deep blue which flows primarily in the bottom right side of the piece.
