Sorry it's in two posts... I couldn't get the text to go in right.


I attended an exhibit last Friday at Alfred University in the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery entitledFerrous Bloom. The show was curated by Coral Lambert, and featured Christian Benefiel, Laurence Edwards, Andy Griffiths, Ginny Hutchinson, Marjee Levine, Carolyn Ottmers, and Vaughn Randall. The description for the show is as follows:



"The artists represented inFerrous Bloomexamine the unique and fascinating nature of iron as a sculptural vehicle, drawing on its innate physical properties and rich historical associations."



I thought that the iron drawings were of particular interest. They're the ones in the pictures that are on large pieces of canvas attached to the wall. They're done by laying out iron on canvas, then exposing it to water, allowing the iron to rust. Placing piles of iron under the pieces like it had fallen off was an interesting way to present the work.
