Evan summer
Going to the artist talk was very helpful to understand why Evan Summer’s did the work that he did and still does. As I walked in I kind of knew a little about print making already so I was kind of excited about what I was going to see. There were things that I liked and other things that I did not like at all. The collagraph works were not so interesting as I thought they would be. The process of building things up to make the collagraph is very interesting but I don’t like the outcome of it. The size of these prints are very surprising. The bugs in etching were very good and very detailed. I did like how Summer’s captured the details on the bug as well as making them bigger than what the actual size really was. The prints that really caught my eyes were the ones with etching and dry point combined. The way he has all those lines so close to one another is very eye catching and makes a person stay and look at the print a little longer than one usually would. The geometric style shapes the Summer’s uses is what makes me like the work with the 3d style look it gives the work. The way that he combines man made objects and nature works very well and there is no strain in the eyes at all when one is looking at the art work. I like Landscape XVI. The way the geometric figure goes back to the horizon line and still interacting with nature and not over powering but working with it instead. Summer’s does a great job in his prints with such straight lines that are so close, so much details must have made the process go on forever.
