evan summer response

I’ve been looking forward to seeing this show for awhile. I am currently taking printmaking so I was excited to see what kind of work an accomplished artist in the field could create. I was amazed with the etchings that he created. We are currently doing to those in class. I was shocked with how fine the lines were and close together they were. When looking at some of the pieces from far away it looks like there are completely black areas, but when I looked closer it was actually many lines very close together. What I enjoyed most in the show, were the collagraphs, both the prints and the actual plates. I enjoy how there is a broad range of lights and darks, and the various textures in the pieces. One thing that I thought was interesting about his show was the variety of pieces. I felt that there were so many different materials, styles and techniques. I feel that anyone attending could find something that they enjoy, because of the variety. I also attended his workshop that he held which I felt was very beneficial. It was interesting to see his portfolio that he brought. There were several pieces where he showed to steps ofmaking his plate. I enjoyed seeing how much time and perfection he put into his plates. It was also cool to see the collagraph because I’ve never actually seen one. I am very interested in this and plan on trying one. Watching him print his screens was also great to see. Watching his technique gave me ideas as to how to make my prints better. I enjoy how he leaves a lot of the ink on his prints when he prints them. I feel it gives more appeal and is more interesting to look at.
